In 1988, she became an Associate Professor, and since 1998, she has been a Professor at the Department of Electronic Computer Software (now the Department of Software Engineering).

She has made a significant contribution to the development of the “Software Engineering” major. She has been a scientific advisor on many postgraduate, master’s and specialist projects. She has trained 5 Candidates of Science in the speciality 05.13.06 – “Automatic Control Systems and Advanced Information Technologies,” 01.05.02 – “Mathematical Modeling and Computational Approaches”. She is a member of the editorial board of a collection of scientific papers, “Problems of Bionics”, and since 1997, she has been the head of the workshop of “Radio Electronics and Youth in the XXI Century” Scientific Conference.

Since 2002 – the scientific director of the research laboratory “Geoinformation systems and computer graphics”.

Scientific interests – automation of control of spatially-distributed objects; geoinformation systems and technologies; electronic cartography; automation of technological processes of media systems; automated planning and management of the development and operation of gas distribution systems.

Scientific and technical achievements: models and methods of constructing geoinformation analytical systems of cities and territorial entities (model of organization of data in the system, optimal system architecture, digital card development technologies, methodology for developing and implementing a system using WEB-technologies based on proprietary and free tool software ); models and methods for automating the management of technological processes of publishing and printing enterprises (methods for developing automation tools for prepress work, methods for solving the problem of optimal loading of technological equipment of a printing enterprise); models and methods of automated control of the development and operation of gas distribution systems.

In the framework of scientific research, he worked as a scientific director of 4 state budget and 15 inter-contract works, among them: «Research and development of generalized models of color reproduction», «Development of technology and tools for the creation of city-based geographic information systems based on open source software products», “Development of the concept and scheme of multimodal user interaction scenarios with the Tizen office application” (customer – representation of SAMSUNG in Ukraine), “Creation of a geoinformation system for monitoring the impact of hydrocarbon exploration and production projects on the socio-economic development of local communities in the Kharkiv region” (customer – representation of Shell Exploration and Production Ukraine Investments (IV) BV).

S.V. Chumachenko is a holder of the third Degree Certificate, which is included in the database of the best specialists in the region. She got a diploma “The Best Lecturer of Kh�������� of 2003”.

As a member of the research team she became a winner of the research projects competition in the area of computer-aided design of integrated circuits (from Intel Corporation, 2003).

S.V. Chumachenko is a holder of the City Award “The Best Young Scientist of Kharkiv” (the Diploma of the City Mayor) in the nomination “Scientific Activity” (2004).

She got a Certificate of Merit and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Kh�������� Rector for her steady and diligent work and for her creative attitude to her duties (2004, 2005, 2010).

For significant achievements in science, she got grants named after G.F. Proskura (in engineering sciences) from the Kharkiv Regional Administration (2005). S.V. Chumachenko is a holder of the Certificate of International Recognition from the IEEE Computer Society for voluntary work in organizing scientific symposia – “IEEE Certificate of Appreciation for Significant Services to East-West Design and Test Symposium for over Three Years” (2006).

For her long-term, conscientious work, for her considerable contribution to the development of education and science, and for training highly qualified specialists, she was given a Certificate of Appreciation from the Dzerzhinsky District Administration (2010).
